You probably don't even really need to read it because the movie was so well done. You would be able to jump to the second book without a problem, but I agree with Haidi. The 1st hunger game movie has an 84% fresh rating on rotten tomatoes, whereas the 2nd film has an 89% fresh rating. The first movie is a 4.5/10 at best. The story is not that original, battle royale has already done it. The performances aren't that good, the script is meh, and the action scenes are awful.
