WebOct 30, 2014 · The 10.25 and 10.5" are basically the same axle. You can use the 10.5" gears in the 10.25" housing too. The 40" tires aren't going to hurt it a bit. I would however weld the tubes to the housing. I like the no maintenance and easy replacement of the unit bearings. The newer 05+ IIRC have 35 spline outers as well.
